The Maritime Experiential Museum At resorts World Wenorts World Sentosa Singapore
This state-of-the-art museum offers challenges that belie the multi-sensorial, interactive and innovative platform that is Singapore’s firstMaritime Experiential Museum on Sentosa Island.
The core brief from both the New York-based Ralph AppelbaumArchitects and Singapore resident DP Architects was to create almostcontinuous 30 metres (3.5m height) of highly-specified display casesalong an 8-metre high perimeter wall. This train of a single, undividedwall-mounted showcase houses the main treasure trove of the Bakaushipwreck the museum recently acquired for more than S$300m.
Using pre-engineered parts and a fully-concealed interlockingsystem framework, the entire showcase was assembled within anastonishing 3 days with another 2 days spent testing air-tightness andsecurity measures. Artefacts were protected within their space by acollaborative ensemble of expert security advisers and technicians thatpre-laid elaborate nodes of sensitive alarm wirings.
Lighting experts from Spain-based Lightcibles were detailed in theirspecifications for recessed ceiling-mounted fibre optic projectors thatachieve subtle accent lighting with glass tails that have a dual rolein delivering a 6 degree spot to pick up a tiny 3cm teacup to a 35degree light envelope for earthen jars that measure 1.5 metres across.Apart from this main showcase, another group of tall, slim cases wereengineered to be fully demountable with unimpeded views from bothsides. The Bakau shipwreck and Temasek archaeological site that can befound at this Maritime Archaeology Gallery together create a must-seeexperience of the amazing voyage of the discovery of rare exhibits atThe Maritime Experiential Museum in Singapore.
